And it shall be called...

I haven't posted much lately about the game development progress so I thought I would post a little update. The working title for the project is Second Genesis. I'll try to tag all my posts about future developments with secondgenesis, so it will be easy to keep track.

I'm still at that brainstorming stage where a lot of ideas are still whirring around inside my head, waiting for the best ones to percolate to the top. A couple of friends have been helping with the process and have contributed some great ideas, and at the same time helping me keep my head out of the clouds :)

I have though settled on the following things:
  • It will be web based. I have been tempted several times, playing around with various game frameworks and ideas, and I keep coming back to wanting to do something a bit different on the web (and this doesn't mean embedding a Java applet in the browser-- ewe! :) ).
  • It will be very MUD like. I've played with a couple of graphical game engines and continue to prove to myself that I am not an artist. Many will probably quickly point out that I am not much of a word smith either, but hopefully I have a better chance at improving my writing capabilities than I would my drawing capabilities. I also have many fond memories playing MUDs in the past and think that there is still a lot to be explored in that area of game development.
  • The game will be heavily influenced by the Enoch RPG. It is a very refreshing departure from the typical D20 rule sets, and the lore of Enoch parallels a lot of ideas that I have been stewing on for some time. Many thanks to Chad for his work on it, and I encourage you to check it out if you are interested in apocalyptic rpgs.
Nothing great and exciting to show everyone yet, but baby steps none the less, and baby steps it will be for a while still...
